National Beach Safety Awareness Week
Published on May 19, 2025 by Pineapple Willy’s
At Pineapple Willy’s, the beach isn’t just our backyard — it’s our way of life. That’s why we’re proud to recognize National Beach Safety Awareness Week, a time to remind locals and visitors alike that a great day at the beach starts with knowing how to stay safe.
With warm weather heating up and summer crowds rolling in, now is the perfect time to brush up on the basics: understanding beach flags, spotting rip currents, and knowing what to do in an emergency. Whether you’re a seasoned beachgoer or planning your very first visit to Panama City Beach, safety should always come first.
Helping Families Learn — One Pineapple Adventure at a Time
This week, we’re also shining a spotlight on Adventures with Willy, our kid-friendly animated series starring Willy the Pineapple — the Gulf Coast’s quirkiest and most loveable safety expert.
Willy’s mission? To make beach safety fun and unforgettable for kids (and let’s be honest, grown-ups too). In each short episode, Willy dives into important topics like:
🌊 Rip Currents — what they are, how to spot them, and what to do if you get caught in one
🚩 Beach Flags — what each color means and why you should always “know before you go”
⚡ Weather Safety — when to hit the waves and when to head for cover
Each episode is packed with vibrant animation, easy-to-understand tips, and even fun quizzes to make learning stick — all available for free on our YouTube channel.
Safety Starts With All of Us
As a locally owned restaurant that’s been a part of this community for generations, Pineapple Willy’s is committed to helping keep our beach safe, clean, and family-friendly. Whether you’re grabbing a rack of ribs after a day in the sun or watching Willy with your little ones before hitting the sand, we encourage you to make beach safety part of your vacation routine.
So this week, join us in spreading the word. Watch an episode with your kids, talk about what the beach flags mean, and share this info with fellow beachgoers. A little knowledge goes a long way when it comes to protecting the people (and pineapples) we love.
